In many cases, the answer is a Regional Occupational Program (ROP).
These programs, usually available through public high schools, provide instruction and training to meet the needs of diverse industries, including culinary arts, nursing, digital media and just about anything else you can think of.

This comprehensive program serves the California high school districts of Huntington Beach Union, Newport-Mesa Unified, Irvine Unified, Saddleback Valley Unified and Tustin Unified.
It provides instruction in a total of 12 industry sectors. These include Arts/Entertainment, Education, Hospitality, Public Services and many others.
Besides offering training programs to high school students, they also provide an adult fee-based program.
This program is available to high school students in the districts of Anaheim Union, Brea Olinda, Fullerton Joint Union, Los Alamitos Unified and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified.

- Automotive Technology
- Auto Body Repair
Baldy View articulates a commitment to educational rigor and lifelong learning.
Selected classes (such as Landscape and Turf Management and Medical Assisting Foundations) offer a Community Classroom which allows students to learn skills on the job.
Courses come in three different levels (Introductory, Concentrator or Capstone). A few offer college credits for successful completion.
A variety of courses are offered in 2020, including Introduction to Game Animation, Cosmetology, Dental Careers and Criminology (to name just a few).
Serving the California counties of Colusa, Sutter, and Yuba, Tri-County ROP aims to prepare graduates for entry level positions in their chosen fields.
Courses are structured around the 15 career clusters identified by the California State Board of Education.
These courses are available to community members and to high school students who are at least 16 years of age.
Among its many course offerings for 2020, Tri-County ROP will be the first high school program in California to ever offer a course in Aerial Mapping and Photogrammetry.
Students at Clovis High School in Clovis, CA have a number of options available to them for ROP.
Through the high school’s Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART), students can partner with professionals from the community to complete research and technical projects at a state-of-the-art facility.
They also offer a total of 17 ROP programs between their two campuses at Clovis and Clovis East.
Courses include Building Information Modeling, Careers In Education, Criminal Investigation and Fire Fighting Technology.
The world of work as we know it constantly evolves and changes. And this career education program seeks to prepare its graduates for these changes lifelong.
Besides familiar programs like Dental Assisting and Medical Assisting, Santa Cruz also offers several tantalizing new programs this year.
Skateboard Industry and Language Interpretation are just two of the many exciting options here.
Eden Area ROP serves high schools in the Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro, and San Lorenzo Unified school districts.
Classes are scheduled in three-hour segments either in the morning or the afternoon, depending on the program.
Eden Area offers a total of 24 programs which include Automotive Technology, Criminal Justice, First Responders and Welding Technology.
Students attending El Dorado Union have the opportunity to participate in a total of 11 ROP programs.
Courses are taught at various high schools in the region.
In some cases, students who complete the coursework successfully can earn certifications, such as Certified Assistant Veterinary Certification or EMS First Responder Certification.
The 11 programs include Auto Engine, Database Design, Fire Control Technician and Metal Fabrication.
The only ROP on our list devoted specifically to adult learners, Norwalk La Mirada serves adults over 18, as well as select junior and senior high school students.
They are a great resource for adults seeking a High School Diploma, as well as those who wish to improve their computer skills or pass a Citizenship test.
They can also help adults improve their English.
